The Ironman Florida Triathlon will take place in and around Panama City Beach
The Ironman Florida triathlon is one of the most popular events on the Ironman schedule. More than 2,000 athletes from around the U.S. and the world are expected to compete in Ironman Florida, which enters its sixth year in Panama City Beach. Athletes will be competing for 100 qualifying spots to the 2008 Ironman World Championship held in October in Kona, Hawaii, as well as a $50,000 pro prize purse.
Ironman triathlon is one of the most grueling events in the world of sport, and also one of the most inspiring. It features a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike, and a complete marathon (26.2 miles) all in succession. Athletes have 17 hours to complete the event (from the 7 a.m. start until midnight).
Ironman Florida is well known in the triathlon community as an age-group race, and as a great race for first-time Ironman triathletes. Utilizing the stunning beaches of Panama City Beach, Ironman Florida offers a great opportunity for athletes to get "their feet wet" in Ironman events, and also provides a last competition before the winter season sets in.
The 2004 Ironman Florida triathlon closed to general entry less than 24 hours after on-line registration was opened on Sunday, November 9, 2003. With the closing of Ironman Florida, all five full-distanced Ironman North America events for 2004 are closed to general entry.
